So. Deadspin had a photoshop contest with these guys. It was inevitable. Also, if you want to see the London 2012 Olympic mascots doing things like backdooring a Teletubbie, presenting Simba and Nala's baby to the African plains, or creeping on the Queen of England, there you have it. Enjoy. I'll brb -- just bleaching my eyeballs.

David Cameron and Nick Clegg may be the biggest thing to happen to political RPF since Rahm Emanuel, but I think the UK has another potential pairing on its hands:

Why yes, those are the mascots for the 2012 London Olympics, called Wenlock and Mandeville. No, I don't know what the hell they were smoking when they came up with them either. But come on, people! Tell me I'm not the only one who saw that picture and immediately thought this:

[personal profile] whyareyoulikethis: If fandom does not end up writing terrible crackish slash about these two, I will be so disappointed in the internet.
[personal profile] stopitsomemore: Why would you even PLANT THAT SEED into the internet? NOW IT IS GOING TO GROW INTO A TERRIBLE, UGLY TREE.

JUST ME?

We here at Fanspastic like to think of ourselves, like Glenn Beck, Nancy Grace and the Ghostfacers, to be truth seekers. (Also, we're hiring interns. If you are gay and willing to die for our cause, all the better!) And in the interest of that, and because certain members of the Fanspastic editorial team just would not shut up about how much they hated Matt Smith, we took it upon ourselves to do some digging about the Eleventh Doctor, and to plumb the depths of why people hate him.

So do a lot of people, I guess?

Just to give you a taste of what we've been dealing with here:

ExpandThere's a lot of anger under this cut. )

The tl;dr of the conversation?: Smith, who is indisputably young, is raising the hackles of both traditionalists who find his lack of acting history dubious as well as newcomers still partially mourning Tennant's exodus. The storyline of the Eleventh Doctor promises to be promising, but is Smith up to the job? In terms of acting chops, at least [personal profile] whyareyoulikethis and [personal profile] thatneedslube feel there's reason for doubt. And profoundly terrible lead actors have been a blight upon network television for at least a decade now. In the end, Smith's up against a tough crowd with a WPM of 90+, average, probably and a lot of pent-up anger. Good luck, man.

Either way, new Dr. Who starts showing Sunday via BBC1. For those of you lucky (or...unlucky?) enough to see it live, Godspeed. For those of you who can but are too lazy to, the BBC iPlayer is here for you. For those of you trapped in the loose confederation of revolutionary states also known as Amerrrka or anywhere other than the UK and would like access to the iPlayer too, Lifehacker has kindly put together a visual guide on how to make that happen.
